Trip Omon has come a long way since releasing his debut project, The Righteous Kill Mixtape, on Christmas Day in 2014. Now, ten years later, the Nigerian artist marks this milestone with his latest single, Breathe, a heartfelt track that speaks to the struggles, joys, and fragility of life.
Back in 2014, The Righteous Kill Mixtape introduced Trip Omon to the world. Featuring 25 songs handpicked from over 100 recordings, the project showed his talent and ambition right from the start. Over the years, Trip Omon — whose real name is Will Wayne Omon—has released five EPs, several mixtapes, and countless singles, all showcasing his unique mix of sounds and storytelling.
Growing up as the youngest of nine siblings in a music-loving home, Trip was surrounded by all kinds of tunes—from gospel to reggae, pop to classical. But it was Rock and Hip-Hop that shaped his style the most.
“Music was always around me,” Trip Omon explains. “But Rock and Hip-Hop were my escape. They gave me a way to express my emotions and tell my story.”
Now, with Breathe, Trip shares one of his most personal songs yet. Released on November 28, 2024, the track is about appreciating the little things, like the simple act of breathing.
“Breathe is a reminder to find peace, even in life’s chaos,” Trip says. “It’s about taking a moment to reflect, to appreciate life, and to keep pushing through challenges.”
Inspired by his own experiences, including health battles and moments of uncertainty, Breathe is both a personal story and a universal message.
“Life can be tough,” he says, “but every breath we take is a gift. This song is my way of telling everyone to slow down and be thankful for the time we have.”
For the past decade, Trip Omon has been known for his honest, relatable music and his ability to mix different genres seamlessly. Reflecting on his journey, he sees Breathe as both a celebration of how far he’s come and a glimpse into what’s next.
