Tekno Finds Beauty in Simplicity on New Album, Where Did Love Go?

Six years may seem like a long wait between albums, but for Tekno, relevance has never depended on the frequency of releases.

Since Old Romance arrived in 2020, his catalogue has continued to live beyond its release cycle. Records from different eras still find their way onto playlists, DJ sets, and everyday conversations, a reminder that longevity often comes from consistency rather than constant visibility. Where Did Love Go? doesn’t feel like an artist returning after an absence. Instead, it feels like the next chapter from someone who never truly left.

Across eight tracks, Tekno narrows his focus to one idea: what happens to love after the honeymoon phase fades. Rather than chasing chart-ready moments or oversized concepts, the album finds its strength in emotional honesty. Before its release, singles like “Bamboo,” “Press Button,” and “Matter” had already amassed more than 3.1 million streams, offering listeners an early glimpse into a project that values intimacy over spectacle.

One of the album’s biggest strengths lies behind the boards. Tekno handles production on half of the project himself, while Yung Willis, D’Meek, Justopac, and Tino complete the sonic landscape. Despite the variety of producers, the album never loses its identity. Afrobeats, Afropop, dancehall, and subtle R&B influences flow seamlessly into one another, creating a listening experience that feels cohesive from beginning to end.

“Bamboo” eases listeners into the project with warmth and familiarity. It doesn’t try to command attention. Instead, it settles comfortably into its groove, allowing the melody to do the heavy lifting. “Press Button” raises the tempo with a dancehall-inspired bounce, yet still preserves the emotional thread that runs throughout the album.

The emotional centerpiece arrives with “Adaeze.” Produced by D’Meek and Justopac, the record captures the quiet heartbreak of watching someone drift away without understanding why. Tekno resists the temptation to provide neat conclusions, allowing uncertainty to become part of the storytelling.

“Matter” shifts the conversation in a different direction. Here, love becomes responsibility. The song suggests that genuine affection means carrying another person’s burdens alongside your own, a simple sentiment delivered with sincerity rather than excess.

As the project progresses, “Port Au Prins” expands on the idea of commitment by exploring love that survives distance and uncertainty. “Wedding Day” follows naturally, replacing hesitation with certainty and marking one of the album’s most hopeful moments.

That sense of peace continues through “Gently,” one of the album’s most understated records. Self-produced by Tekno, it embraces softness without becoming sentimental. The closing track, “Avelay,” brings the album’s central message into focus. Its repeated declaration, “I dey available,” is refreshingly uncomplicated. It isn’t trying to be profound. It simply reminds listeners that love often reveals itself through consistency rather than grand gestures.

Throughout Where Did Love Go?, Tekno returns to the same question from different angles: what does love demand once the excitement settles? Sometimes the answer is loyalty. Sometimes patience. Sometimes it’s simply choosing to stay.

That singular focus becomes one of the album’s greatest strengths. In an era where many albums feel designed to satisfy streaming algorithms with disconnected moments, Where Did Love Go? unfolds like a single conversation. Every track contributes to the same emotional narrative, giving the project a sense of purpose that’s increasingly rare in contemporary Afrobeats.

Nearly fifteen years into his career, Tekno isn’t trying to reinvent himself. He’s refining what has always made him compelling. His melodies remain effortless, his songwriting remains direct, and his confidence lies in knowing that simplicity can be just as powerful as experimentation.
