Oluokun Temitope Tariq, known professionally as TAR1Q, is redefining African music with a unique, genre-blending style that has quickly caught the industry’s attention. Signed to Chocolate City Music and known for his velvety voice, TAR1Q seamlessly melds Afrobeats, Pop, Hip-Hop, and R&B into a sound that feels both innovative and deeply personal. Born on May 1st in Benin City, Nigeria, TAR1Q grew up in a family where cultural diversity and self-expression were part of everyday life. His journey into music began at 12, and after a move from Delta State to Lagos, he found himself drawn to songwriting as a way to make sense of his experiences. What started as a hobby soon turned into a passion as he began crafting narratives that felt like conversations, bringing an introspective depth and vulnerability to his lyrics. In 2022, TAR1Q released his debut EP, Son of the Moon, introducing fans to his honest and evocative storytelling. This project, which included tracks like “sIgNaLs,” “bAd IntentIons,” and “bE MInE” featuring Blaqbonez and Ria Sean, gave listeners a glimpse into his creative journey and themes of love, self-discovery, and growth. The success of “bAd IntentIons” propelled him further into the limelight, establishing TAR1Q as a fresh, authentic voice in the Nigerian music scene. TAR1Q’s sound continued to evolve in 2023 with the release of his second EP, All I Felt, featuring fan favorites like “PrEttY Like” and “iN My FeeLinGs.” Now, in 2024, he has captivated audiences with his most recent project, Okada Airlines, currently being promoted across platforms. This eight-track EP includes collaborations with notable artists, such as Young Jonn on “Bus Stop (Remix)” and Khaid on “Jigga,” showcasing his artistic growth and musical versatility. Beyond his solo projects, TAR1Q has contributed to collaborations that further highlight his versatility, including “Santa Monica” by Dumoni the Jig and “Dealer” by 10Ten. His collaborations reflect his appreciation for the diversity within African music and his desire to continuously push boundaries.
